GAZA- On Tuesday, August 25, 2015, the first two projects of the Gaza Masterplan were inaugurated at the El Zeitoun Latin compound in Gaza.
On a bright sunny day, Rev. Father Imad Twal, General Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem inaugurated two of the first projects in the parish and school within the El Zeitoun Latin compound in Gaza. He was joined by the Latin Patriarchate staff involved in these two projects: Henrique Abreu, head of the Project Development Office; Chief Engineer Habib Sleibeh and his engineering team; Father Mario da Silva, parish priest; contractors; and several parishioners of the Holy Family Church.
The first project was funded by Catholic Relief Services (CRS), which was a major upgrade and improvement for the Kindergarten: new AC/heating units and the complete remodeling of the installations, replaced internal windows, new teachers’ room added, improved lighting installations, bathrooms reconfigured, new kitchenette with water fountain, new fire system and emergency exit, new external playground with new green carpet floor.
The second project funded by World Vision, was the purchase and installation of a new generator to a different location by the entrance to the parish compound. This upgrade and move, eliminates the noise in the school caused by the generator that was disturbing the learning process during classes, and increases the energy supply for the school and parish alike.
The school and the parish will now enjoy the availability of an external recreation and seating area for the parishioners and a playground for the children after Masses and other parish gatherings. These new projects will directly benefit 1,300 Christian residents of Gaza.
The El Zeitoun compound includes the Latin Patriarchate school with 300 students, a kindergarten for 50 children, the parish priest house and the Holy Family Church. There are also two Sisters’ communities within the premises, who help in the parish activities, and are responsible for homes for children and for the elderly with disabilities.
