ARTS strives to empower the asylum seeking community to respond resiliently to the numerous challenges of living in Israel. While available to all who are experiencing difficulties, ARTS focuses on the particular needs of female asylum seekers and survivors of torture. Female asylum seekers in Israel are highly susceptible to homelessness, food insecurity, and domestic abuse. Many have experienced or are at risk of sexual violence. Both male and female survivors of torture suffer from anxiety, depression, and other trauma-related mental health difficulties and are unable to access appropriate treatment services in Israel. ARTS’ activities are structured to offer special support to these populations, whose unique needs are otherwise underserved by the Israeli state.
